Pouring a Concrete Foundation – Construction Tips

A concrete foundation is a base for a structure. The type and size of concrete foundation you will need is based on the structure you will place upon it. You may need a concrete foundation for a fountain, or your patio furniture, or even for an air conditioner unit.

The foundation is the basic structure over which the entire building is erected. It is very necessary to build a strong foundation for the overall strength of the structure. Not only that, a clean construction of foundation increases the beauty of the building. Pouring the concrete in the right way so that there are no unwanted uneven patches.

The outline of the process of building a concrete foundation is:

  • Choose the type of foundation to build.
  • Set the footings 2 feet across.
  • Align the boards to build the forms of the footings.
  • Square and level the form.
  • Make the concrete.
  • Make the concrete foundation
  • Finish the concrete.

However, the last two steps of building the foundation are the most important. Pouring the concrete into the form, levelling it, making groves, letting it dry thoroughly and removing forms at the right time and finally keeping the concrete wet for few days to avoid cracking.

The video posted by Gregvancom on YouTube shows how the pouring and setting of concrete is done. Moreover, once the concrete dries, the extra bulges needs to be chipped out using chipping hammer or jackhammer.
